Today I attended my very first Diabetes class. I have to say I was looking forward to it because after being diagnosed with diabetes I was scared to eat. One thing I will say that will be hard for me to overcome is giving up on my Golden Flake potato chips and cutting down on my carbohydrates. I am the Carb Queen!I had a lot of my questions answered today, like why my BG is high after working out, and what my BG should be, and what the heck is a A1c. I found out today that my A1c is 10.3 and my goal is to get that down to at least 6.9. I need to have my A1c tested every 3 months until is gets down to a healthy level. I also found out that the nerve damage in my feet MAY NOT get any better. In fact, she told me that it may get worse before it gets better...YIKES, these Kaiser people are harsh.
So, I know what I have to do, I need to take my medication (metformin), eat less carbs to get my bg (blood glucose) down to at least 120 (it is over 200 now) and I need to exercise. Oddly enough....the one I may have difficulty with is the low carbs.
